Four men get 10 years each for inmate rape

DUBAI: Four men were sentenced to 10 years in jail on Wednesday after they were convicted of repeatedly torturing and raping an Indian inmate in Dubai’s Al Awir Central Jail in November last year.

“They beat me up and threatened to kill me using sharp objects and they stubbed their cigarette butts all over me and then raped me repeatedly for a month,” the 20-year-old victim told investigators. The four convicts included three Emiratis and one Bahraini. The Bahraini will be deported after serving his sentence.

The Indian inmate testified that A.G., a 28-year-old Emirati, first came into his cell one day and asked him to follow him to a separate room. The victim said there was a bed hidden by a curtain inside the room.

“He (A.G.) then asked me to have sex with him,” the victim told investigators. “When I refused, he took out a sharp tool and asked me again. I denied him again. He then twisted my arm, punched me and forced me to undress, and then proceeded to rape me.”

When he was done, A.G. told the young Indian that he’s become his “brother” and it became his duty to protect him.

Three days later, A.G. came into the Indian man’s cell with another Emirati inmate, A.D., 24, and took turns raping him. Three days later three men – A.G., A.D., and another Emirati, K.M., 29, asked to have sex with him. When he resisted, the men asked for the help of A.H., 31, a Bahraini inmate, and raped him.
