Ash didn't shine in 2007
The world of showbiz with all of its glitz and glamour kept us glued to our seats throughout the year 2007.
Dubai itself saw its fair share of the hottest celebrities (turning it into the next Sunset Boulevard!).
Justin Timberlake, George Clooney, Aerosmith, and P!nk just to name a few.
Last year, Gulf News readers predicted that one of the world's most beautiful women and Bollywood's leading ladies Aishwarya Rai would shine in 2007.
In fact, they put her ahead of r'n'b sensation Beyonce Knowles and Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo Dicaprio. To the disappointment of some, Ash only came out with two movies, The Last Legion and Guru. While the former did not have much impact in the box office, the latter brought out her sensitive side.
If anything, Ash was more in the news for her wedding to Abhishek Bachchan. Their every move was noted by the media but in terms of her career, there was very little impact.
Much like last year, this year's choice for the star most likely to shine is another Bollywood superstar:
Shah Rukh Khan. In fact, some of our readers predict he will win Indian film awards in the next 12 months for his spectacular work.
Khan had two hugely successful releases in 2007: Chak De India! and Om Shanti Om. Both were blockbusters and were praised by critics and masses.
George Clooney is our readers' distant second choice, followed by Bollywood's princess Rani Mukerji.
For 2008, our readers have high hopes for England's leading songstress Amy Winehouse. They say she will quickly attain an iconic status because of her incredible vocals and unique ability to connect with her audience.
