Maria, owner of Maria Dowling Salon, shares her secrets to getting sleek and smooth
1 Blow-dry using a paddle brush (we particularly love the Maria Dowling Paddle Brush Dh95, available at the salon) and keep hair smooth by holding the dryer with the nozzle facing down. This ensures the cuticles stay closed and smooth – we don’t want volume with this style!
2 Part the hair in a deep side parting and apply Kérastase Mania Wax (Dh135, Maria Dowling Salon) to dry hair. Mould it over the top area of the hair and crown to keep hair smooth, then take one pump of Label.m Frizz Control Serum (Dh85, Toni&Guy) and apply to any frizz-prone areas to keep any flyaways at bay.
1 Start off by spritzing Sea Salt Spray by Lush (Dh95) generously all over damp hair, focusing on the roots to help create intense volume for a thicker and more textured braid. Then tip your head upside down and blow-dry, this will add texture and volume. Or try using a curling iron to get some extra oomph.
2 Use a tail comb to create a parting and bring all the hair to the side to recreate the Temperley look. To add volume to your roots spray Mark Hill’s Big Blow Thicker Fuller Volume Spray (Dh45, Boots) before you begin to style. Then braid up a 3-piece style plait and gently loosen into a heart shape.
3 Finish the look by lightly spraying Label.m’s Hold & Gloss Spray (Dh76, Toni&Guy) to add shine and hold your plait in place.
1 Apply a generous amount of Lee Stafford’s Poker Straight Shine Serum (Dh59, Boots) to the ends of your hair. This will help keep your pony perfectly smooth while adding intense shine and hydration. Next, blow-dry hair with Label.m Volume Mousse (Dh75, Toni&Guy) to create texture, then divide the hair into two sections, creating a heavier section at the back and leaving a smaller section loose at the front.
2 Spray Kiehl’s Deeply Restorative Smoothing Hair Oil Concentrate (Dh135) very lightly on the roots and ends of your hair to smooth and treat any frizziness, then take the heavier section of hair and create a side parting, pulling the hair back into a low pony and securing in place with a hair tie just below the nape of the neck.
3 Take the front section of hair and sweep it back towards the pony, wrapping the hair around the elastic to disguise it. Secure in place with another band and finish with Label.m Hairspray (Dh72, Toni&Guy).
1 Start off by applying Label m’s Thickening Cream (Dh80, Toni&Guy) to towel-dried hair, to add texture. Next spray a little Kevin Murphy Fresh Hair (Dh120, Marquee Salon) throughout to add a little extra volume, before parting the hair wherever you choose.
3 To finish off the look, spray Davines Shimmering Mist (Dh96, Ceilo Beauty Spa, Abu Dhabi) all over to add a gorgeous, glistening shine.
