What led you to choose to major in economics?.In year 9 when I was picking my GCSE subjects at school I decided to attend a taster session for economics and see what the subject was about. After thoroughly enjoying it and doing a bit more reading around the subject, I ended up choosing the subject as one of my GCSE options. Since then, my interest in the subject has only grown and burgeoned through research and reading..You have worked on some research papers. Could you tell us more about it? How did you choose the research topics? What were the major takeaways from that experience?.I have completed some research on things like bitcoin and on subjects like universal basic income through opportunities at school..They were both topics that I didn’t know much about but had found interesting in brief reading, so I decided to pursue them as full research projects, allowing me to delve deeper. Not only were they very fascinating, but the projects also helped me in gaining some valuable research skills I will need at university..What kind of mentorship/advice did Hale offer you? How useful has it been in preparing for the admission process?.Coming from a family where no one has gone to the US for higher education, neither me nor my parents were familiar with the application process and its different stages. Hale helped in familiarising me with the different components and guided me through the process..How did you go about building your profile when applying to Stanford?.You can’t really build a profile for a specific university, since most universities like to pick unique students – there’s no formula to any specific university. So, nothing specifically for Stanford, but I just pursued specific subjects and activities that I enjoyed, and completely focused on these in the past couple of years, as opposed to trying to do too many things. Aside from that, working on my essays was a big part as I think they are probably the most important part of the application.. There are a bunch of early deadlines so preparing in the preceding summer will mean you will be organised and ready to submit applications in time..Have you decided on a speciality you wish to pursue? If yes, why did you choose that?.I’m currently interested in pursuing economics, but the great thing about university in the US is the ability to try different things and pursue a variety of interests..What are your dreams vis-a-vis academics and career?.I hope to complete my undergraduate degree and then probably pursue a master’s. Once that is done, I would like to evaluate whether I would want to continue my academics or start working. In terms of work, I could go into research or pursue a career in things like consultancy and maybe finance..I haven’t really got any specific goals but am going to uni with an open mind. I’m also interested in entrepreneurship and look forward to hopefully building on this at Stanford by pursuing the multitude of opportunities on offer and collaborating with other students..You are also interested in music and playing the drums. How do you have time to pursue other passions along with preparing your higher studies?.One of the things I enjoy doing in my free time is playing the drums.
