Ask the expert: I’d like to have fuller lips

For lips, we would always advise the use of fillers that are non-permanent

Last updated:

I’m 31 and would love to have fuller lips, but I’m scared that if I get fillers they might look unnatural. What’s the best treatment available, and how long will it last?

These types of fillers are safe to use. They create a soft and natural filler that can last between six and 12 months.

After this period, you would need to have another session to maintain the desired results. Permanent fillers often lead to complications and are no longer favoured by doctors.

Another procedure, which involves using fat as a filler, doesn’t give natural results.

The added advantage of using hyaluronic acid for fillers is if you don’t like the result you have got, the surgeon can ‘erase’ the filler with a product called hyaluronidase.
