Ask the expert: do I need a facelift?

It is not always the case that an eye lift goes hand in hand with a facelift

I want to get an eye lift, but I’m worried if I have it done, it will make the rest of my face look saggy. I’m 39 and have been in Dubai for 12 years and I have always sunbathed, so my skin is quite leathery. Should I have a facelift as well?

If you have heavy lids, it might be more comfortable to get an eye lift, which can freshen up the face. Heavy lids can make you look older, more tired and sometimes they are so heavy that they feel uncomfortable. The removal of the excess skin around the eyes won’t necessarily make the rest of your face look saggy, but this has to be discussed during your consultation with your surgeon, who will need to assess the skin around the eye and on your face as it is not always the case that an eye lift goes hand in hand with a facelift. Also, at 39, you may be considered too young to have a facelift, so a temporary solution at this age would be to consider some thread lifts to freshen and rejuvenate the lower half of your face.

We recommend that you have a proper consultation with a reputable plastic surgeon who can advise you after an assessment of your skin.
