Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, met Jair Bolsonaro, the President of Brazil, at Expo 2020 Dubai here today.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and President Bolsonaro explored the avenues to strengthen the ties between the two countries as well as future opportunities and new strategic partnerships in a range of fields.
During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid praised Brazil’s development drive in various sectors and highlighted the UAE’s keenness to boost cooperation in the fields of trade, agriculture, energy and other vital industries. The meeting was also attended Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and a number of ministers and officials.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid received the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross from the Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, the highest rank of the order that is given to heads of states
Economic cooperation
President Bolsonaro expressed his country’s desire to enhance cooperation with the UAE and strengthen economic cooperation, trade, knowledge and cultural exchanges. Bolsonaro highlighted how the UAE has emerged as an important gateway to world trade, backed by its openness, flexibility and economic diversity.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and President Bolsonaro witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoU), aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The agreements included an MoU on cooperation in education, which was signed on behalf of the UAE by Jameela Al Muhairi, the Minister of State for Public Education. A draft agreement on the repatriation of convicted prisoners was signed on behalf of the UAE by Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, the Minister of Justice.
A draft MoU for international cooperation and discussions between the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research and the Alexandre de Gusmao Foundation was signed by Dr Sultan Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research. The agreements and MoUs were signed on behalf of Brazil by Carlos Alberto Franco Franca, the country’s Foreign Minister.
Today, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid also visited the Jordan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. He was accompanied by Bishr Al-Khasawneh, the Prime Minister of Jordan.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said in a tweet: "We welcome Jordan's culture, history and people with us in the UAE. The relationship will remain in a continuous fraternal development."
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid also visited the Singapore Pavilion at Expo today. In a tweet, he said: "Today, I also visited the Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. The meeting of the world with us in Dubai during 6 months at the Expo is an amazing meeting that will have long effects on the development process in our country."
