It’s official: The Recruit has been cancelled. Actor Colton Dunn broke the news on Wednesday (March 5), leaving fans reeling over the abrupt end of the spy thriller.

"The Recruit has been cancelled, y’all," Dunn shared on Instagram, calling it “such a bummer.” He added, “I’ll share some pics and fun memories on IG, but just wanted you to hear it from me. Thanks if you watched. I’m AVAILABLE NOW!”

But while cast members process the news, frustrated viewers are blaming the show’s demise on poor scheduling. Many believe The Recruit was unfairly pitted against The Night Agent, another high-profile spy drama that dropped its second season just weeks earlier.

"They released this and The Night Agent within the same month. What did they expect?" one fan complained. Another added, "I kept confusing this show for The Night Agent every time I saw news about it—maybe it was doomed from the start.”

The series, starring Noah Centineo as a CIA lawyer navigating international crises, debuted in December 2022 and returned for a second season in January 2025. Though its comeback received positive reviews, many feel it never got a fair shot against its better-positioned competitor.
