Old themes and characters are resurrected in the latest instalment
Plenty of new plot details litter the first full-length trailer for the latest James Bond adventure, released on Wednesday.
Starring Daniel Craig and directed by Sam Mendes, the trailer for Spectre shows our protagonist doing what he does best: getting into fantastic car chases, decoding secrets and surrounding himself with gorgeous women (Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci play Madeline Swann and Lucia Sciarra, respectively.)
The trailer sprints from long, overhead shots of London, Mexico, Italy and Morocco to close up shots of each of the characters — capturing the glitzy, mysterious nature of Bond movies. Co-stars Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes — now “M” — make appearances.
Actor Andrew Scott — who already has top villain credentials as the nerfarious Moriarty of the BBC’s Sherlock Holmes series — also puts in a mysterious cameo in a rooftop fight against M.
But perhaps the greatest excitement among fans is the introduction of Bond’s rival Franz Oberhauser, played by Christophe Waltz. His closing remark, “It was me, James, the author of all your pain,” rings in the memory even after the end of the trailer. To many, he strongly seems to resemble one Bond’s iconic nemesis of the 1960s-1980s: Ernst Stavro Blofeld — but with a head full of hair.
Blofeld was the head of SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion), which is the title of this year’s film.
The 24th Bond film releases on November 6, and will have its world premiere in London on October 26
