After two back to back assignments I headed to the Ahasees Spa and Club at the Grand Hyatt with a caffeinated system, my head buzzing with looming deadlines and no lunch for the day.

All that was forgotten as I walked into the plush, dimly lit nightclub turned spa: it was like walking into a different world. Here, people walked on clouds and angels ensured you were hydrated and comfortable. Out of nowhere, a tray of bread with jars of fresh cherry tomatoes, pickled mushrooms and chicken mortadella and cheese appeared.

Comfortably full, in lieu of Hyatt’s new spa treatments in collaboration with the June Jacobs spa collection, I opted for the Signature June Jacobs Spa Collection Body Treatment, which the therapist promised would leave my skin soft and glowing.

Lying face down I was asked to breathe in a citrusy scent and felt completely removed from the world. With long strokes, an exfoliating papaya enzyme mask was applied to my body and I was wrapped in a electric blanket. I had no choice but to succumb to the relaxing head massage. The world and its problems became a thing of the past. Next, a lemon sugar body polish was massaged into my skin to remove the papaya mask and dead skin cells.

Since each treatment room comes complete with a washroom and changing area I didn’t have to make an embarrassing run to the showers to wash away the beads.

The ingrown hair problem I have had significantly reduced and my skin was visibly brighter. It was back on the treatment bed for me as the therapist kneaded a conditioning treatment into my skin. Special attention was given to my hands and feet, and a specially formulated lotion applied to my cuticles.

Where had the hour gone — we had come to the end of the treatment and I wasn’t ready to let go just yet. After the voices in my head decided against throwing a tantrum to prolong the treatment, I got ready and headed to the lobby for a quick chat with Rochelle Jacobs, the president of the June Jacobs Spa Collection.

Jacobs assured me that all the products used in my treatment were carefully selected botanical and plant extracts recognised for their soothing restorative powers. Further, the entire skin-care range is paraben and preservative free.

Two days later my skin is still bright and soft and I will definitely be booking myself at the spa again.

The June Jacobs spa experience at the Grand Hyatt consists of two signature facials and two body treatments.
