Playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar was found unconscious at her residence in Nizampet, Hyderabad, on March 2 after reportedly consuming sleeping pills in an apparent suicide attempt. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she remains stable but on ventilator support.
Concerns arose when Kalpana did not respond to knocks on her door for two days. It was the apartment security who alerted neighbors, prompting them to contact the police. Authorities followed due procedures, though the exact reason behind her actions remains unclear.
At the time of the incident, her husband was in Chennai but quickly traveled to Hyderabad upon receiving the news.
Daughter of renowned playback singer TS Raghavendra, Kalpana has had a prolific career in music. She won Star Singer Malayalam in 2010 and has worked with legendary composers such as Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman. With over 1,500 songs recorded in multiple languages, she began her career at the age of five.
Apart from singing, Kalpana briefly explored acting with a cameo in Kamal Haasan’s Punnagai Mannan. She also participated in Bigg Boss Telugu Season 1, hosted by Jr NTR. Some of her notable recent songs include Kodi Parakura Kaalam from AR Rahman’s Maamannan and Telangana Tejam by Keshava Chandra Ramavath.
