Lovi Poe’s return was worth the wait; Mark Herras and Ynna Asistio just good friends?
Brilliant performance
This is what one would expect from actress Cherie Gil – in her self-produced indie film, Sonata, she delivers her best performance yet. Gil portrays the role of an opera singer who loses her voice and decides to become a recluse in her hometown. In the film, Gil shines beautifully as the despondent diva, and the movie itself is a wonderful masterpiece from Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes. Gil admits this movie has been years in the making as far as the concept is concerned; she’s happy the film materialised this year, thanks in part to some financial help from her expat ex-husband with whom she is friends.
Good start
There has been so much anticipation for Lovi Poe’s return to primetime TV it’s almost been sickening. But judging from the pilot week, the show is worth the wait. Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas (Tomorrow is Still Mine) also marks the first TV series of award-winning actress-director Laurice Guillen for GMA 7; it also stars Rocco Nacino, Ruru Madrid, Cesar Montano and veteran actress Gloria Romero. The show registered very high ratings during its first week, and is expected to rate even higher once Poe actually appears. Poe is proud of the series and said it was one of the reasons she chose to renew her contract with GMA.
Early favourite
It looks like the Philippines’ representative at the Miss World pageant has become an early favourite to bring home the crown. Megan Young emerged as one of the finalists in the beach fashion competition along with 10 other girls. She is also set to perform at the pageant’s Dances of the World segment, where only 10 other countries also get to showcase their native dances. A tweet from a fan page of Miss World Thailand also had Young as one of the front runners of the Beauty with a Purpose contest, another fast-track event of the pageant where the winner gets an automatic slot in the semi-finals.
Still friends
Former couple Mark Herras and Ynna Asistio have been spotted together in public on a few occasions after their break up, giving rise to rumours they might be together again. When asked, the actor-dancer quickly dismissed speculations saying he and Asistio have remained good friends after parting ways a few months back. Herras admitted they’ve gone out a couple of times, but only as friends and that this was part of their moving on plan.
