Veteran singer Iman Al Bahr Darwish forbids filming biopic of Egyptian stars
After recently winning a seat in Egypt's Musicians Union, veteran singer and businessman Iman Al Bahr Darwish has announced he is working on a new law that would forbid the filming of the biography of a star without the consent of their family or heirs.
This comes after the criticism and disappointing reviews Carole Samaha and the rest of the cast received for the Ramadan TV series Al Shahroura — a biopic of the Lebanese star Sabah.
After the series started to air at the beginning of the holy month, Al Sahroura's team landed in hot water with the heirs of Egyptian singer Abdul Halim Hafez, as well as Sabah's second husband and father of Houweida, Anwar Mansi.
As a result, Darwish revealed he is working on the law so that any celebrity that has contributed to Egyptian entertainment would not be "disrespected" in the future.
"This law would offer heirs the right to defend the reputation of their deceased and to grant permission or forbid the filming or documentation of their biographies," he told media.
Ana Badea Ya Wadea
With a shortage of decent Arabic Eid movies being released this year, UAE cinemas have only brought over one from Egypt. And unfortunately, it does not look very good.
Ana Badea Ya Wadea is the big screen adaptation of the award-winning Melody Aflam advertisement campaigns of recent years; however Ayman Qendil and Amjad Adel , who play Wadea and Tehami respectively, should have gone out on a high rather than come up with this production.
Here, the film, which also stars Nelly Karim and Intissar among others, addresses Wadea and Tehami's personal lives and the "comical" situations they face. But all that the trailer has shown us is that the script's weak and the content smutty. How inappropriate for Eid!
Ready to get hitched
It seems that celebrities can fall for the very people that write about them. Ghada Abdul Razeq has announced she is marrying journalist Mohammad Fawdah by the end of this year.
The Egyptian actress — whose Ramadan TV series Samara received disappointing reviews — has been seeing Fawdah on and off after her divorce from film producer, Waleed Al Tabi'ee, in 2009.
