Amid the recent dating controversy involving actor Kim Soo-hyun and the late actress Kim Sae-ron, Seo Yea-ji has publicly distanced herself from her former co-star after being inadvertently pulled into the scandal. This came after an alleged insider from Soo-hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, claimed she had been framed as a 'bully' and that the company had deliberately provided false information to Dispatch, to tarnish her image.

On March 13, 2025, Yea-ji addressed her fans on her official fan café, expressing her frustration over being linked to Kim Soo-hyun, his cousin Lee Sa Rang, and their management agency, Gold Medalist. After reading a comment that connected her to the scandal, she stated, "I'm only human... This has been overwhelming, stressful... I'm so sick and tired of it all.  It saddens me and suffocates me... I've been holding back, but I responded to a comment and deleted ... I'm not affiliated with him and his cousin. I don't know why I need to explain myself... but I'm frustrated.”

Seo Yea-ji and Kim Soo-hyun previously collaborated in the 2020 drama It's Okay to Not Be Okay. She was under contract with Gold Medalist from 2020 until 2023, after which she transitioned to Sublime Entertainment in 2024.

Previously, Seo Yea-ji faced allegations of misconduct, including accusations of bullying and manipulating her ex-boyfriend, actor Kim Jung-hyun. Later, she issued a formal apology in February 2022, acknowledging her past mistakes and expressing a commitment to personal growth.
