Fans rally for Resident Playbook Season 2 after record-breaking finale
Death, birth, sweet romances, and the return of old faces—Resident Playbook, the spin-off to Hospital Playlist, has wrapped up its run with 12 episodes. On May 18, show ended on a high note, achieving its highest viewership ratings of the season. According to Nielsen Korea, the finale of Resident Playbook recorded an average nationwide rating of 8.1 percent—setting a new personal best for the show and ranking as the most-watched cable program of the entire weekend.
The wholesome medical drama has left fans both satisfied and wistful, with many feeling the short-lived series was worthy of a second season. However, Netflix’s "limited series" label has dimmed hopes for a continuation.
Still, the love for Resident Playbook is evident. Some fans are even considering launching a petition to bring the show back. “We went from a year of countless uncertainties about whether it would even air, to six short but enjoyable weeks of getting to know our residents and watching them overcome their struggles,” one viewer reflected.
Another commented, “It’s really sad how short Resident Playbook is. They could easily make four seasons—one for each year of residency—but there are no plans for a new season.”
Others agreed that the show deserved at least 16 episodes, saying it would have offered more closure, especially with no sequel on the horizon. “Petition for Resident Playbook Season 2—where do we sign up?” read several enthusiastic posts. Many also questioned why some of the best series are left without follow-ups, while others deemed “unnecessary” keep getting renewed.
