Thriller on IT crackdown is gaining traction steadily, inching closer to Rs1 billion mark
Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 continues to maintain its momentum at the Indian box office, pulling in a solid total of around $10.1 million (Rs840 million) after six days.
While footfalls dipped slightly following the weekend, the film is expected to cross the $12 million mark (Rs1 billion) by the end of its extended first week.
According to estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Raid 2 earned approximately $650,000 (Rs 50.4 million) on Tuesday alone.
Globally, the film's earnings are even stronger. By Day 5, Raid 2 had grossed over $13 million (Rs1.08 billion) worldwide, with international markets contributing approximately $1.8 million (Rs150 million). In India, the gross collection reached nearly $11.25 million (Rs930 million).
Despite the box office success, critical reception has been mixed. Gulf News Entertainment Editor Manjusha Radhakrishnan, in her review, wrote:
“Raid 2 is more taxing than entertaining. The thrill of hunting down tax-evading criminals is lost in a sluggish script that fizzles out faster than the ink on a printed note.” She acknowledged Riteish Deshmukh’s effective turn as the antagonist but felt the screenplay lacked freshness and urgency.
“Even Devgn’s intense presence can’t save a premise that feels reheated. This sequel has the energy of a slow-motion spreadsheet.”
The review also pointed out the outdated portrayal of Vaani Kapoor’s character as the eternally supportive wife, adding that the supporting cast—including Supriya Pathak and Saurabh Shukla—delivered serviceable performances, but within flat, one-note roles.
Film critic Taran Adarsh, however, lauded the movie’s commercial performance, declaring on X (formerly Twitter).
He further commented on the resurgence of mass-market appeal in Bollywood, with Raid 2, Kesari Chapter 2, and Jaat 2—featuring stars like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and Sunny Deol—drawing audiences back to theatres.
Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid 2 follows Devgn’s Amay Patnaik, an IRS officer back in action after conducting 74 raids. This time, he takes on a corrupt political empire—but as our review summed up,
“For a film about high-stakes crackdowns, Raid 2 plays it far too safe.”
With just one day left in its first week, Raid 2 stands as a financial win—though creatively, it may leave viewers craving more.
