Manila: JM Canlas, a young Filipino showbiz personality and up-and-coming Netflix dubbing artist, passed away at the age of 17, local media reported.

JM is the youngest brother of actors Elijah and Jerom Canlas. His brother Jerom, in a social media post, confirmed that JM passed away on Thursday.

JM’s talent showed early when he dubbed lines for some notable Netflix movies like Stranger Things, We Have a Ghost, and Wednesday.

He also appeared in independent films Kiko Boksingero (2017) and ANi (2019) and TV series Unconditional (2020).

In a Facebook post, his brother Jerom Canlas stated, "It is with the heaviest heart and deep sorrow that our family announces the death of our bunso [youngest brother], Jamile Matthew Madiclum Canlas, earlier this morning. He was 17."

The statement, however, did not reveal the cause of death.

The post states: “JM, as he was known to many, was a talented actor, athlete, musician, singer, debater and gamer. He was always a proud Filipino with a bias and compassion for the poor and oppressed. But most of all, JM will forever be remembered as an incredible young man, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, student and friend…

“In his adolescence, JM struggled with his mental health. If you are experiencing current distress and are in need of URGENT ATTENTION, please proceed to the emergency room of the hospital nearest you… You can also call the following numbers: * DOH-NCMH Hotline 0917-899-8727 or 02-7989-8727…”

The wake for JM was held at St. Peter Chapel on Quezon Avenue, Quezon City, a Manila suburb, according to the famlily.
