In their latest film, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, Surya and Jyothika play a married couple. Now that's true in real life too.
After the high profile wedding of Shalini and Ajith, the most talked- about marriage in South India is that of Surya and Jyothika. The wedding, on September 12, coincided with their latest release Sillunu Oru Kaadhal.
Though the ceremony was low- key, it was attended by all the bigwigs in Tamil Nadu, right from Superstar Rajnikant to ex-chief minister Jayalalitha. Unfortunately their die-hard fans were kept at bay due to security reasons.
Surya and Jyothika play a married couple in Sillunu Oru Kaadhal and have extended their reel life act to real life. The irony of their onscreen role is that their characters are forced into a marriage that they are not interested in. Moreover, Surya's character Gautham had been romantically involved with Aishwarya (Bhumika Chawla) and this creates a rumpus in Kundavi's (Jyothika) life. In real life, Surya has a clean image and seems to be madly in love with his new bride. Their off-screen chemistry can be imagined based on the charm and passion they ooze onscreen.
This magnetism is evident in Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, which will delight their fans. The cozy couple ignited the screen earlier in Kaakha Kaakha (2003) and Perazhagan (2004). Though Sillunu Oru Kaadhal avoids a lot of clichés, it could have been made better, but this is probably due to lack of experience by debutant director Krishna. The film is definitely helped by A. R. Rahman's cool, jazz style music.
Meanwhile, Surya seems to be maturing with every release. He continues to be on a song after last year's blockbuster Ghajini where he played a character suffering from short-term amnesia (a role to be re-enacted by Aamir Khan soon).
Jyothika too has performed well in this film, in addition to her superb role in the recently released Kamal Hassan's Vettaiyadu Vellaiyadu.
But the sad news for Jyothika's fans is that she plans to stay away from films and concentrate on domestic bliss. They love her for bubbly and no skin-show image and will never forget her award-winning performance in Rajnikant's blockbuster Chandramukhi (2004).
