Zayn Malik is likely to re-join the rest of One Direction in Dubai despite his current hiatus from the band’s world tour, according to local organisers of their April 4 concert at The Sevens Stadium.
Rumours that Malik cheated on fiance Perrie Edwards while partying in Thailand surfaced online on Wednesday, causing Malik to pull out of 1D’s shows in the Philippines and Indonesia to return home for a break.
“Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate. The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta,” a spokesperson for the band said.
Thomas Ovesen, COO of Done Events, the Dubai organiser, told tabloid! that Malik would likely be back in time for his South Africa dates, which kick off as soon as March 28.
“As per the statement issued by the band, we have also been kept updated as to the situation with Zayn needing to return home to deal with his stress. I have been assured that it is the intention for Zayn to rejoin the tour, most likely for the South African shows, and so I think it is best we leave him to get to sort himself out whilst we get on with the massive preparations for the big Dubai show,” said Ovesen.
On Thursday, shortly before the announcement of Malik’s departure, he took to Twitter to dispel the rumours of infidelity, which were spurred on by several photos of him holding hands with a woman outside of a nightclub, and one photo of him with his arms around her.
“I’m 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there’s a lot of jealous [expletives] in this world I’m sorry for what it looks like,” Malik wrote.
Zayn was seen arriving in London in the early hours of Friday morning. Edwards was pictured leaving their shared home not long after.
On Saturday, at the band’s first show since Malik’s departure, the rest of the boys told the audience that they Skyped with Malik before the performance. However, they did not mention when they believed he would return to the stage.
The following day, confirmation surfaced that Louis Tomlinson has also been wading through troubled waters. He was said to have split with his long-term girlfriend, Eleanor Calder, two weeks prior. A photo surfaced of Tomlinson kissing an unidentified woman in a pool in Thailand.
