The leading men of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood have shared a first look at Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film.

Leonardo DiCaprio teased fans with a photo of himself in costume alongside Brad Pitt, staring down the camera with 1960s swagger.

DiCaprio, who was the first actor to commit to the Sony Pictures project, last promoted the film alongside the director at CinemaCon in April before they had even shot one frame of it. But Tarantino called DiCaprio and Pitt “the most exciting, dynamic star duo since Paul Newman and Robert Redford.”

Joining them are Margot Robbie, Timothy Olyphant, Luke Perry, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Al Pacino, Emile Hirsch, Clifton Collins Jr., Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Keith Jefferson, Nicholas Hammond and Scoot McNairy.

The film is set in 1969 Los Angeles and supposedly revolves around the Charles Manson murders. DiCaprio plays former western TV star Rick Dalton, and Pitt stars as his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth. But Rick also has a very famous next-door neighbour: actress Sharon Tate.

“It takes place at the time of the hippie revolution, and it takes place at the height of the new Hollywood,” Tarantino has said. “During this summer, we will, little by little, street by street and block by block, be transforming Los Angeles into the psychedelic era in 1969.”

The film is due in theatres August 9, 2019, the 50th anniversary of the Manson murders.
