What is the common denominator between Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight, former Playboy star Tila Tequila and four-time North Korea visitor Dennis Rodman?
Donald Trump, apparently.
The Midnight Cowboy actor and staunch conservative backed Trump in a statement to conservative news and opinion website and radio programme Breitbart on March 9, saying “Donald is funny, playful, and colourful, but most of all, he is honest.”
He lambasted the media for “spewing out lies and propaganda against Donald,” and ended his statement with a plea to all Americans.
“I pray all Americans who have seen and felt the meltdown of America with the Obama years, to please fight for Donald Trump. He will not let us down. I pray for all good people to see clearly what faces us now. The right vote will save our nation.”
Voight joins a growing number of high-profile endorsements for Trump, and they span an impressive number of industries. In addition to Tequila and Rodman, Jenny Craig spokeswoman Kirstie Alley, football commentator Mike Ditka, Nascar CEO Brian France and longtime Las Vegas performer Wayne Newton have publicly supported the Donald.
On the political front, the eternally controversial Gov. Paul LePage, R-Maine; tea party favourite and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin; immigration hardliner Sen. Jeff Sessions; and former Trump critic and rival Gov. Chris Christie are just a few of the politicians backing Trump.
Of course, Trump isn’t the only one with surprising endorsers. Actor Tim Allen likes Gov. John Kasich and Women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is all in for Sen. Bernie Sanders. But Trump may be “winning” at amassing the motliest crew of endorsements in the run-up to the conventions this July.
