Filming of 'Emily in Paris Season 5' has been suspended following the sudden death of assistant director Diego Borella on set in Italy. He was 47.

According to People, Borella collapsed while preparations were underway for a scene at the Hotel Danieli in Venice. Medical staff rushed to assist but were unable to revive him. A local doctor later confirmed his death, citing a “sudden heart attack.”

The incident has cast a shadow over the Netflix series, starring Lily Collins, which is currently shooting its fifth season in Italy. Production was immediately halted after Borella’s passing.

Borella, a respected Venetian professional, trained in Rome, London and New York. In addition to his film work, he was active in the fields of visual arts and literature. He had only recently joined the team in Italy for the new season’s schedule.

The tragedy comes just days after Netflix unveiled the first-look images from the upcoming season.
