In recent weeks, social media has been abuzz with speculation that Hollywood actor and Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow took a subtle dig at Meghan Markle — despite the Oscar winner expressing public support for the Duchess of Sussex just days earlier.

The rumour mill began churning after Paltrow posted a casual video on Instagram, cooking breakfast in her kitchen, makeup-free and dressed in striped pyjamas. The internet, however, was quick to draw comparisons to Meghan’s glossy new Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, interpreting Paltrow’s down-to-earth post as a calculated jab.

What many conveniently ignored is that Gwyneth has been sharing relaxed, home-cooking content for years — long before Meghan launched her latest lifestyle show or venture. In fact, just a week ago, the Goop founder had praised Meghan during an interview with Vanity Fair, making it clear that she harbours nothing but goodwill toward the Duchess.

“I mean, I’ve met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all — maybe I’ll try to get through their security detail and bring them a pie,” Paltrow joked in the interview.

She also voiced her discomfort with how certain women are treated in public discourse, saying, “When there’s noise about certain women in the culture, I do have, always, a strong instinct to stand up for them.”

Paltrow didn’t stop there. She went on to express her support for Meghan’s lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, saying, “I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes. I think there’s always more than enough to go around.”

Still, that didn’t stop tabloids and online critics from concocting a narrative of rivalry, prompting more headlines about an imaginary rift. But Gwyneth, in signature style, decided to clear the air with a touch of humour.

During an Instagram Q&A on Tuesday, she was asked about the alleged feud.

Instead of a typed reply, Gwyneth responded with a video — first expressing complete confusion over the rumours, then dramatically panning to none other than Meghan Markle herself, sitting in her kitchen and enjoying a slice of pie.

“Do you understand this?” Gwyneth asked playfully. Meghan simply shrugged and laughed — a clear, cheeky nod to Paltrow’s earlier quote about bringing pie.

It was a clever and iconic moment that seemingly put the bizarre beef rumours to bed.
