This a true story based on Dawn Townsend, a single woman with four children, who fights all odds to return to a normal life after being struck by a crippling illness.
The story goes like this. Dawn Anna (Debra Winger) works as a part-time teacher in a school, but with finances slowly dwindling, she is forced her to take up a full-time job.
She not only starts teaching high-schoolers, but to earn extra income, she coaches the girls volleyball team.
A while later, Anna starts suffering from blinding headaches and dizziness.
After a check-up, she is diognsed with brain tumour and asked to undergo a surgery which leaves her without the ability to walk or even talk.
With the help of her loved ones, Anna beats all the odds and teaches herself not only to lead a normal life, but also manages to return to her job.
There's plenty of drama later on for Anna and her children. As soon as things seem to stabilise and come back to normal, there's another traumatic crisis for Anna and her family. This particular scene involves the Columbine School.
What's interesting to watch in this film is how Anna copes with her day-to-day life and how she handles her emotions through turbulent peroids. Debra Winger is terrific in the lead role.
