Ava Phillippe humorously dismisses Cruel Intentions comparison
Cruel Intentions fans, we see you. Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon may have fallen in love after the 1999 film and later divorced, but their pairing still has a devoted fandom.
That’s exactly what their daughter, Ava Phillippe, had to contend with in her latest TikTok. The 25-year-old actress playfully shut down a fan’s comparison that hit a little too close to home. The comment: “Close enough. Welcome back Reese and Ryan.” It was aimed at Ava and her boyfriend, Dakota Brubaker—, suggesting the two are basically her parents 2.0.
In the video response, Ava mouths “no” over and over with an exaggerated cringe as Brubaker steps into frame, wearing a black turtleneck and glasses—resembling Ryan’s iconic Cruel Intentions character, Sebastian Valmont. The resemblance was... unsettling. “You guys,” Ava captioned the clip. “whaaaaattt.”
To really drive the parody home, she set the video to The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony, the track that famously played during the closing scene of Cruel Intentions, the 1999 drama where her parents met and starred.
Fans couldn't unsee it. “Now I can’t unsee it,” one wrote. Another chimed in, “I thought the same,” while a third added, “I’m sorry but this is hilarious.”
Ava and Dakota have been dating publicly since December 2024, when she confirmed their relationship with a sweet black-and-white photo booth snap on Instagram.
