What a triumph indeed. BTS leader RM, born Kim Nam-joon scripted history at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs) and was crowned Favourite K-Pop artist. In the past year, the rapper has been sweeping awards for his album, Right Place, Wrong People, which was a rare, distinct insight into his mind psyche. It was a marked difference from his previous album, Indigo, which was a soulful introspection on his 20s.

With the new award, he sets a new precedent in K-Pop history as he is the first Korean solo artist to claim an AMA as part of the grown and on his own.  He joins BTS and PSY as the only K-pop acts to ever take home a trophy from the US-based awards show.

Nevertheless, it was a battle, as this year’s Favorite K-Pop Artist category was packed with some of the genre’s most beloved stars, including ATEEZ, Jimin, BLACKPINK’s Rosé, Stray Kids, and RM.

While RM is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, fans around the world made sure his moment was celebrated. Social media platforms lit up with congratulatory messages and emotional tributes, and ARMY has vowed to rechart his RPWP songs in celebration, and to bring the songs back on Billboard. “That’s our king,” one fan wrote. “We got a music award for Joon. We did it,” another added. “RPWP was truly significant in his journey and he deserves all the recognition and appreciation,” one wrote.

The rapper will be discharged from the military in June, the countdown has already begun, and as ARMY has duly noted, 25 days left.
