The wait is almost over. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial period romance Padmavat will release in India on January 25, according to industry sources.

However, distributors are yet to comment on the UAE release date and said that they are waiting for an official confirmation from India.

If all goes to plan, then Padmavat will clash with Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man ahead of the Indian Republic Day weekend (January 26). Kumar has confirmed that there will be no change in his release. But the release of Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary has been moved to the first week of February, according to sources.

Padmavat, which was initially slated to release on December 1, has been in the eye of a storm due to its content. It’s a tale of a Hindu Rajput Queen and the Muslim invader Alauddin Khilji. But several Rajput and right-wing groups found the portrayal of the Hindu queen offensive. A bounty was also placed on Padukone’s head by a politician.

Recently, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave a U/A certification along with some modifications and suggested to change its title to Padmavat from Padmavati.
