Under the patronage of the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Abu Dhabi Awards has officially launched its 12th edition, coinciding with the country’s declaration of 2025 as the Year of Community under the theme “Hand in Hand.”

Now marking two decades since its inception in 2005, the Abu Dhabi Awards continues its mission to celebrate selflessness, compassion, and civic contribution by recognising individuals—citizens, residents, and even non-residents—whose acts of goodness have positively impacted the UAE community.

Over the past 20 years, the Awards have honoured 100 recipients representing 18 nationalities, reflecting the values of unity, participation, and social responsibility that are core to the UAE’s national identity. The honorees come from diverse backgrounds and sectors, including healthcare, sustainability, education, volunteerism, science, environmental protection, culture and heritage preservation, and efforts to support People of Determination.

Call for nominations now open

Nominations for the 12th cycle are now open to the public. Individuals across the UAE are encouraged to nominate those who have made significant and selfless contributions to society. The nomination process is accessible year-round via the official Abu Dhabi Awards website: www.abudhabiawards.ae. Only one nomination is required for a candidate to be considered.

“Each nomination is a testament to the enduring values of generosity and commitment that define our society,” said Mahra Al Shamsi, a member of the Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee. “This special edition commemorates 20 years of honouring individuals who have quietly and humbly worked to uplift others. We urge everyone to take part by nominating someone whose positive actions inspire and serve as a catalyst for greater good.”

‘Goodness in Motion’ campaign launched

In conjunction with this milestone year, the Awards will roll out ‘Goodness in Motion’—a mobile community engagement campaign that will travel across the UAE. The initiative will visit malls, schools, and construction sites, offering interactive experiences for families, children, and the wider public. The campaign will include community giveaways and educational activities that encourage citizens and residents to recognise everyday heroes among them.

Additionally, a series of roadshows and workshops will be conducted in partnership with institutions across the country to promote awareness of the Awards’ values, and the importance of recognising and appreciating acts of service within the community.

“The Abu Dhabi Awards is more than a recognition programme—it is a national platform that honours the human spirit,” Al Shamsi added. “It is about recognising the power of quiet generosity and inspiring future generations to carry that torch forward.”
