Looking at jail time?
George Wassouf was recently sentenced to six months in jail in absentia by a Lebanese court. The singer was passing a restaurant in Beirut in 2005 when, for no apparent reason, he took out his unlicensed gun and fired 20 shots in the air. Although no one was hurt, Wassouf was sentenced for possessing and using an unlicensed weapon and has since filed an appeal.
Diab's the man
Winning has become a habit for Egyptian singer Amr Diab. He walked away with the Best Selling Middle Eastern Artiste award for the third time at the recent World Music Awards for his album Ellila Di. He won the same award for Akta Wahid Beihebak in 2002 and Nour El Ein
in 1998.
Marwa to act in play
Following the success of her film Haha We Tuffaha, Lebanese singer Marwa is now getting ready for her first play. The comedy, titled Ahebak Ah, Atgawizak La (I Love You But Won't Marry You), is directed by Hussan Salah Eldin. It is about a poor musician who dreams of fame and stardom.
Can't buy Horani's love
Lebanese singer Dominique Horani denied rumours that she was marrying an Arab millionaire who promised to pay her a dowry of $10 million if she gave birth to a baby boy. Horani described the news as silly, insulting and too ridiculous to believe, adding that she would never sell herself.
Sweet success
Lebanese singer Carole Samaha has proved her critics wrong. The singer's concert on November 3 at the Opera House in Cairo was hugely successful, much to the dismay of those who predicted it would flop. Some people objected to Samaha, who is not very well known in Egypt, singing at a venue that has hosted concerts by some of the world's best singers.
