Dubai: Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday honoured the winners of the Dubai’s Department of Economic Development’s (DED) Business Excellence Awards.

During the ceremony held in Dubai World Trade Centre, Shaikh Maktoum honoured Arabian Automobiles as the winner of the Dubai Quality Gold Award (DGQA) from the commercial sector. Also honoured were winners of the Dubai Quality Award: DP World as the winner in the logistic services sector, Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority as the winner in the free zone sector, Transguard Group from the logistic security sector and Aswaaq from the retail sector.

Shaikh Maktoum also honoured winners of the Dubai Quality Appreciation Award, which covers a wide range of sectors. The winners honoured were DryDocks World from the industrial sector, Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects from the public sector, Aster Pharmacy Group from the health sector, Shapoorji Pallonji Mideast from the contractors sector, and Smartworld, Belhasa driving Centre, and Wasel Vehicles Testing Centre from the services sector.

The Deputy Ruler of Dubai honoured winners of the Global Islamic Business Award, and those were Dubai Islamic Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Dubai Financial Market.

Shaikh Maktoum then presented the Dubai Human Development Award to Sharjah Islamic Bank, and the Dubai Human Development Appreciation Award to Thumbay Hospital-Ajman, Barakat Quality Plus and Al Ansari Exchange.

Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid then honoured 18 winners of the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme (DSES). The winners were selected from among 2,250 members of the programme due to their outstanding efforts and high quality services rendered to customers during 2016.

In the brands category of DSES, Shaikh Mansour honoured Infiniti-Arabian Automobiles, Axiom Telecom, Damas Jewellery, Life Pharmacy Group, Global Village, and others.

Shaikh Mansour then presented awards to the happiness index winners, who are also members of DSES. The winners were Aafaq Islamic Finance, Al Masraf Arab Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade, Al Jaber Optical and Apparel Group.

Addressing the ceremony, Sami Al Qamzi, Director-General of DED, introduced the Dubai Global Quality Award as a new category in the Business Excellence Awards. The category aims to encourage global companies to adopt a policy of excellence. The award will first be launched on a local scale, eventually expanding to the Gulf Cooperation Council, and then the world.
