The 2- and 3-wheel EV manufacturer's facility will be in JAFZA
Dubai: The Indian EV (electric vehicle) company Omega Seiki Mobility is setting up a $25 million car assembling plant in Jebel Ali Free Zone. The facility is expected to commence assembly by the end of 2025.
The plan is to invest over the next 5 years.
This will be Omega Seiki Mobility's 'first international EV assembly plant' and designed to 'meet rising demand for low-emission transport in the region'.
Covering 42,000 plus square feet, this will also be the first EV plant in Jafza. It will assemble OSM’s range of electric two-and three-wheelers as well and handle storage and distribution of auto components and spare parts.
The plant will lead to over 100 jobs in its initial phase.
Omega Seiki Mobility has production facilities in Faridabad and Pune in India. From its JAFZA production, the company will be hoping to supply or add new exports markets within the wider Middle East and Africa.
"Jafza gives us unmatched connectivity to more than 2 billion consumers - and a business environment that enables speed, scale and sustainability," said Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman of Omega Seiki Mobility.
"Through Dubai, we aim to make clean mobility accessible and commercially viable for partners.”
Some of the regional markets could be deemed fertile ground for the Indian company, which has plans to expand its overall production capacity to more than 20,000 units in the near term.
The UAE already has one of the biggest Indian automotive manufacturers - Ashok Leyland - operating a bus assembling facility.
OSM’s line up includes the 3-wheeler cargo OSM Rage+ and 3-wheeler passenger OSM Stream, offering a range of up to 270 kilometers. The vehicles also allow for fast-charging and battery-swapping capabilities, as well as 'IoT technology that allows real-time tracking and fleet optimisation'.
In India, it has 160 plus dealerships and sold over 20,000 vehicles.
