Abu Dhabi: Friends and former colleagues from the journalistic community yesterday mourned the death of Ahmad Elewa. He is believed to have died of natural causes.

Born in 1967 in Egypt, Elewa made a noteworthy contribution to business journalism in the UAE as a reporter and editor before he joined the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange in late 2008 as a senior public relations officer where he continued to work at the time of his death. He previously worked as a senior business reporter in the Abu Dhabi office of Gulf News for over two years.

Prior to that, he worked at Khaleej Times as deputy business editor. Elewa is also believed to have been a junior Egyptian diplomat at the beginning of his career before he landed in the UAE to take up an entirely new vocation — that of a business journalist, where he realised his true metier.

"Ahmad Elewa was one of the kindest people I've ever known. He was full of optimism, and liked to joke a lot, he had a bubbly friendly nature. He loved everything about life, and loved living it. He helped others without being asked for help. Ahmed will be missed," Dina El Shammaa, Abu Dhabi Deputy Editor at Gulf News, said.

Samir Salama, associate editor, said he has been overwhelmed by grief since he heard the news of Elewa's demise.
