Dubai: Unemployment rate in Dubai stood at 0.5 per cent in 2017, well below the global average, according to the latest findings from the Dubai Statistics Centre.
Results of the Labour Force Survey by the Centre also showed that the overall economic participation rate (percentage of employed people in the working age population) increased by 2017 by around 1 percentage point to reach 83.1 per cent.
Female workers accounted for the largest share of the increase in the economic participating rate, rising 4.3 per cent to reach 53.6 per cent in 2017.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Dubai Statistics Centre said that total employment in Dubai reached over 2.78 million in 2017. Over the last three years, Dubai’s labour market added an average of 110,000 people annually to its resident workforce.
Of the 2.78 million employed people, two million are residents, while 700,000 reside outside Dubai.
The economic participation rate of Emiratis averaged 51.1 per cent, up three percentage points year-on-year. Emirati men registered an economic participation rate of 65.4 per cent while that of Emirati women was 37.4 per cent.
The survey results showed a marked difference between Emirati workforce and non-Emirati workforce. A quarter of employed Emiratis work as associate professionals while about a quarter of employed non-Emiratis are craftsmen.
