Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the 18th Business Excellence Awards ceremony where 32 companies and entities were recognised for their outstanding performance.

Hosted by the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED), the Business Excellence Awards includes the Dubai Quality Award (DQA), Dubai Human Development Award (DHDA) and the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme (DSES).

Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority bestowed the winners.

The initiative is part of DED’s efforts to establish the concept of quality and excellence as a catalyst for stronger business growth and further consolidate Dubai’s status as a preferred destination for foreign investment.

The Dubai Quality Gold Award went to Hilton Dubai Jumeirah (Tourism sector) and Union National Bank (Finance sector) and the Dubai Quality Award to Danube Building Materials FZCO (Trade), Emirates Gas LLC (Manufacturing) and UAE Exchange Centre LLC (Finance).

Moreover, Dr. Jameel Ahmad, Orthopedic Surgeon and Managing Director of Prime Healthcare Group, said that the award grant his business more credibility while they should follow an advanced business model that is able meet with the international standard.

Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of DED, said: “The Business Excellence Awards represent the strongest testimonial on how well organisations and enterprises are aligned to Dubai’s competitiveness goal.“With growing participation from the private sector the Department of Economic Development has been able to evolve the Business Excellence Awards into a comprehensive statement and benchmark on quality across products and services available in Dubai,” Al Qamzi added.

“For the next cycle, DED has announced a new SME (small and medium enterprise) Award in view of the growing importance of the expanding SME sector to the local economy, especially in integrating excellence as a critical component of economic activity, he added.

The Ministry of Education also won the Dubai Human Development Appreciation Award (DHDAA) and Dubai Islamic Bank won the Dubai Human Development Award for their focus on developing UAE national talent.

14 leading retailers selected this year as part of the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme, intended to raise the standards of customer service and business ethics and to set new levels of excellence in the UAE’s fast-expanding retail sector.
