Overfinch, which has been creating bespoke Land Rover and Range Rover models since 1975, has released details of a one-of-one Soft Top Defender, specially commissioned by a client. The Overfinch 6.2L Soft Top Defender is based on a Defender 90 that has been stripped down from a 4-seat configuration and rebuilt to a 2-seater configuration. Finished in a deep Emerald Green exterior, the bespoke version of the iconic off-roader gets a colour-coordinated removable soft-top cover that clips onto the specially constructed roll-over protection cage. Overfinch has converted the rear load space using marine-grade teak and built a lockable storage box finished with a ‘Special-Commission’ plaque.

As the name suggests, the changes aren’t just cosmetic. Under its bonnet is a zero-mileage 6.2-litre carbon fibre encased V8 engine from General Motors, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Churning out a good 450 horses, this setup is good enough to propel the Defender to a limited top speed of 110mph (177kph). To match the performance, it also gets ample stopping power from uprated 6 piston front and 4 piston rear brakes.

The cabin gets Recaro sports seats trimmed in Emerald and Tan leather with contrast stitching, matched by the upholstery covering the dashboard and steering wheel. All the tactile chrome components, such as door handles, gear selector, handbrake, pedals and instrument dials have been given an attractive knurling treatment. If these aren’t enough to distinguish this vehicle as a special commission, then the handcrafted lettering that adorns the bonnet and other branding on the door handles, fuel cap, wheel caps, side sills and headrests will do the job. The 18in Apollo alloy wheels are also in bespoke Emerald Green to match the rest of the scheme.
