Mercedes-Benz shows off luxurious new S-Class cabin

The upcoming S-Class is an important launch for Mercedes-Benz. Having been the benchmark for luxury flagship saloons for decades, a new generation of the S-Class is always something eagerly anticipated. What you see in a new S-Class today is very likely the industry standard tomorrow. Now, Mercedes-Benz has revealed undisguised images of the uber-luxury cabin of its next flagship. And it’s splendidly elegant!

Positioned as a “personal wellness oasis”, the new S-Class cabin, according to the carmaker, has evolved into a “third place”, a refuge between home and workplace. All comfort-related aspects of the S-Class have improved in the front as well as the rear seats, providing a generous amount of space.

Complementing the relaxing effect of the interior are elements apparently inspired by architecture and yacht design. Large trim elements in the dashboard and First Class rear suite can be specced in open-pore wood veneer with inlays made of real aluminium.

The LED interior lighting is interactive with the ambient lighting now integrated into the driving assistance systems and is able to highlight alerts visually. For example, Active Blind Spot Assist provides a visual warning of an impending collision with a red light animation. Additionally, visual feedback is also possible when operating the climate control system or the 'Hey Mercedes' voice assistant.

The active ambient lighting is further integrated into the “Energizing Comfort Control”, which is available with the optional Warmth & Comfort package. At the touch of a button or through voice command, the system can alter the atmosphere in the interior – for example, invigorating settings can be opted for when occupants are feeling fatigued while a relaxing setting can be chosen to help with elevated stress levels. The car chooses appropriate seat kinetics based on a patented algorithm and offers three programs for short, medium-length and long journeys.
