Roadworks have been halted for over a year on Al Mina Road, according to Gulf News reader Gautam Mahajan. He said: "[It is] not only an eyesore but also a danger and hindrance to people walking..." Image Credit: Gautam Mahajan/Gulf News Reader

Thank you, Gulf News, for publishing my community report a year ago. The problem of frequent accidents in Bur Dubai was rectified immediately by the authorities, as they activated the traffic lights at the intersection of Kuwait Street and Al Mina Road.

Since then, I have not witnessed even one accident in over a year. This very area used to have an accident due to speeding every few days! Thanks also to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for listening to my concern.

Now, however, I have another issue to report from the same area.

Roadwork in the Bur Dubai began over one year ago, if not earlier. The footpath alongside Al Mina Road has been dug up for over a year and since then, there has been no progress.

It appears that the project has been forgotten. This stretch of approximately 100 metres has been neglected for a long time. It is located near the new gold souq and is a bustling area.

My concern is that the excavated patch is not only an eyesore but also a danger and hindrance to people walking, as the footpath has been replaced by deep ditches.

I request the relevant authorities to complete this work at the earliest, so that people can use the pavement again on this major road in Dubai.
