Through the community report platform, I want to spread an important message after seeing a tragic scene at Al Zorah Beach, near a power plant, in Ajman.

My friend and I were in the area on a weekend trip, as we intended to visit the mangrove forest near Al Zorah.

The place is a calm haven for several migratory birds and flamingos. After exploring the mangrove forest, we went to the nearby beach and were stunned. The beach is so beautiful and is full of coral sand. However, it is currently in a very poor condition. Without any proper maintenance, the beach has accumulated heaps of urban waste in several areas.

Most of the waste is not just generated by beachgoers, but may be because of the unauthorised dumping of solid waste. The beach has a huge potential to attract visitors due to the bird sanctuary nearby. More serious than the issue of public ignorance is the fact that this is a major environmental concern.

On the one hand, we see great efforts put toward the beautification of beaches, and on the other hand, remote beaches like Al Zorah are being ignored and destroyed because of our negligence.

As a responsible resident, I ask Gulf News and the authorities to take up this issue by promoting general awareness amongst the public, in order to protect our beaches.

Also, I ask the concerned authorities to look into this matter seriously, in order to avoid further degradation of our fragile ecosystem.
