Abandoned vehicles are taking up most spaces in residential parking lots around Abu Dhabi, according to Gulf News reader Farzana Shaikh. Image Credit: Farzana Shaikh/Gulf News Reader

As a resident of Abu Dhabi, I have observed from my apartment building that certain cars have been parked in the same place and position for the past two years. The vehicles I refer to are located in a parking lot behind Electra Street.

No one has bothered to take any action over such abandoned vehicles. The amount of dust and the number of messages scribbled on the car speak for themselves.

At a time when finding a decent parking space is a difficult task, it is really disheartening to see proper parking spaces being wasted in this manner. Many people often have to resort to double-parking and creating new rows in order to deal with the situation.

The irony of the situation is that with the heavy rains over the past few months, the dust on the cars has washed off and they look as if they have just got out of a carwash.

Even the Municipality notices have been washed away. Notices have been put on them several times, but every time, they either fly off or get washed away.

My suggestion would be for the authorities concerned to take action against such vehicles and make arrangements to remove them.

This is one such example and if we look around, there are several other vehicles parked between Electra Street and Hamdan Street, with nowhere to go.
