As we recently welcomed the New Year, the theme for this week is, ‘A fresh start; new beginnings’. Although all the animals looking for a home will fit this category, there are some who have captured our emotions more and we feel they deserve this fresh start more than anything. Perhaps it is ones who have been waiting a long time, or a particularly sad case, or ones who found themselves without a home or even strays who deserve a new life.

Alaska - Animal Action Abu Dhabi

Not a great deal is known about Alaska, which is sad in itself. He was in a foster home with other dogs but has since found himself in boarding for over a month, just wondering why and waiting for a family to call his own. For more information about Alaska, please click here or contact Animal Action on animal.action@hotmail.com

Loki - Animal Action Abu Dhabi

Loki is a lovely medium-sized boy. He is looking for a foster or forever home. Loki loves children as well as other dogs. For more information about Loki, please click here or contact Animal Action on animal.action@hotmail.com

Archer - Animal Action Abu Dhabi

Beautiful Archer is still awaiting his forever home. He has now been in his foster home for a year. He is great with children and most other dogs. He is now almost three years old. House and toilet trained. He’s wondering why he’s having to wait this long for anyone to even ask about adopting him. He wants to be with a family in a home. He is one of the dogs we have had the longest. For more information about Archer, please click here or contact Animal Action on animal.action@hotmail.com

Sophie - Urban Tails Adoptions

Sophie has grown up in the cattery – she was brought there as a kitten and for some unknown reason is always overlooked at adoption days. She is a playful and happy-go-lucky young girl with a lot of love to give. With the right introductions she should get on with another cat. Please consider this gorgeous girl; she would love a home, somewhere to rest her head and amuse her new owners with her athletic playing skills! Carrot - Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Centre (RAK AWC)

No wonder our staff and volunteers all adore her! She is a very loyal dog who loves cuddles. Jani excels in training sessions; can sit, lie down, wait, give paw, roll over and walks well on a leash and is house trained. Cherry - Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Centre - (RAK AWC)

Cherry is a wonderful, well adjusted lady. She is great fun to be around as she enjoys the company of any person and all animals as far as we can tell! Observers often think that she is a little shy at first, but we think it is just her good manners, patiently waiting to be given her commands. She is a very affectionate and people-orientated dog. She loves nothing more than a cuddle and a belly rub. Cherry walks on a leash with ease and can sit, go down, wait, stay, fetch on command and is house trained. Arizona - K9 Friends

Arizona has been with us for ages; she really deserves a break this year. She is a German Shepherd/Husky mix and has a half blue eye. Our Little Sarloos wolfhound was the runt of the litter, but is by far the smartest. She is now four months old and ready to go to a home with another dog. She will need to go to an experienced home as she has a strong personality. However, she is exceptionally sweet. She will be large when fully grown. For more information about Anona, please click here or contact K9 Friends on 04 8878739 or info@k9friends.com

BM - Wags & Purrs

BM is one of the coolest cats we have ever rescued and fostered. She gets along with almost any cat and has no shame to roll on the ground and expose her belly for some rubs when she sees you. She is a kitten at heart, enjoys playtime and is always game for some fun. Born in January, 2013, she is hoping that 2015 will see her settle down in her very own loving home. For more information about BM, please click here or contact Wags & Purrs on wags-and-purrs@hotmail.com

Panda & Pretty - Wags & Purrs

Pretty and Panda are excited to see what 2015 holds for them; maybe it will bring them the fresh start they deserve, being the last of the hoarder’s rescues. As 2014 brought them hope, 2015 should be the year of accomplishments and the year they join their own families. Both are around a year old and looking for their forever families. Both cats are generous kissers and head bunting felines by excellence. Donny - Sandy Paws

We found Donny emaciated, weighing 1.5 kilogrammes and with an ulcerated eye that the vet couldn’t save, so they removed it. He is now a chubby and happy two-year-old cat who loves people and is great with children. For more information about Donny, please click here or contact Sandy Paws on covill@eim.ae

Timothy - 38 Smiles

This young fella was found suffering with jaundice on the streets of Garhoud, Dubai. Lucky for him, we picked him up or eventually his kidneys would have shut down and he would have died. After a few weeks at the vet Timothy is as good as new. Having used up one of his nine lives, Timothy is ready for a new beginning and he really knows how to live life to the fullest, eating like a monster and running around until he collapses on the sofa next to you for a power nap! For more information about Timothy, please click here or contact 38 Smiles on info@38smiles.com

Ginger - 38 Smiles

Ginger was found with her face and body covered with burn wounds. She spent the whole summer at the vet recovering from her ordeal. She was later spayed and fully vaccinated and only recently was lucky enough to find a foster home. She has now started to show her true colours: friendly and loving and quite playful. Ginger is now a beautiful, well rounded playful cat. She is very interactive and affectionate. For more information about Ginger, please click here or contact 38 Smiles on info@38smiles.com

Chris - 38 Smiles

Chris is our Christmas rescue. He was found on December 24, frozen on the side of the road. He looked dead but he wasn’t, not just yet. The initial vet check showed he had been bitten on the back of his neck by a bigger cat. From the shock, the pain and the infection he was unable to move and was slowly fading away. For the first few days Chris could only lift his head slightly; sitting or standing was out of the question, all he wanted to do was eat. Now he can keep his head up, sit, stand and even walk around. Chris needs the most loving home a kitty can get. For more information about Chris, please click here or contact 38 Smiles on info@38smiles.com

Bart - Feline Friends

What luck that with a lack of communication from the vets, Bart was treated instead of being euthanised. Bart would like nothing more than to find his forever home. True cat connoisseur’s only need to apply! If you love olives, fine cigars, classical music, dark chocolate or black coffee then Bart might be the cat for you. For more information about Bart, please click here or contact Feline Friends on 050 4510058 or adoptions@felinefriendsdubai.com

Marshmallow - Feline Friends

Marshmallow has the sweetest nature and will give much love to her new carer. She is very timid and will take some time adjusting to her new surroundings. Her two daughters have been fostered so now it is just her and she would love a new family to love and take care of her, take the time to play with her and show her lots of affection. She will get on well with other cats if they are of a quieter disposition and she might even enjoy having the company of another cat, especially if her new owners are out at work/school most of the day. She is quite playful and loves to play football with her toys. For more information about Marshmallow, please click here or contact Feline Friends on 050 4510058 or adoptions@felinefriendsdubai.com

Mellie - Dubai Animal Welfare Society (DAWS)

Mellie is the mother of our two puppies Olivia and Fitz who where found in Al Ain. She is very friendly with people, little shy at first but comes around quick. She loves to play fetch and run around. Mellie is not very social with other dogs, could be due to the fact that she just had pups and hopefully will settle. Otherwise more training and proper socialising is highly recommended, as with any dog. Mellie would be fine to live in an apartment as she’s rather small. For more information about Mellie, please click here or contact DAWS on info.daws@gmail.com

Olivia and Fitz - Dubai Animal Welfare Society (DAWS)

These two sweet, little puppies are absolutely adorable. Olivia is the light brown coloured female and Fitz the beige coloured male. They are about three months old, Jack Russell size, maybe a bit taller when fully grown. Olivia and Fitz are very playful, love to cuddle with people and enjoy to be with other dogs! For more information about Olivia and Fitz, please click here or contact DAWS on info.daws@gmail.com

Blizzard - Animal Action Abu Dhabi

Blizzard is a typical husky, very friendly but also very lively and full of energy. He has been in a home with three other dogs and therefore is very used to other dogs, but does need a home in a villa with access to a garden and somebody who is prepared to excercise him on a regular basis. For more information on Blizzard, please click here or contact Animal Action on animal.action@hotmail.com

Olive - Animal Action Abu Dhabi

Pretty girl Olive is ready to go to a foster home. She has now been spayed. Olive is very scared and feeling very down at the moment so a home with another very friendly dog, but non-invasive, would be excellent for her. A garden would also be needed because until she gains confidence we don’t think anyone will be able to walk her and we definitely don’t want her to escape as she would be very hard to catch. It took us six months to catch her. For more information on Olive, please click here or contact Animal Action on animal.action@hotmail.com

Sherman - Animal Action Abu Dhabi

Meet Sherman, the doggy who along with his sister Edith, had been living in a concrete box! He was spotted being beaten by his owner when he no longer wanted him and luckily we were able to get him. He’s now in safe hands and so loving and kind. He is a sweet dog and just wants to lick you and kiss you. The adorable Sherman is looking for a foster or forever home. For more information on Sherman, please click here or contact Animal Action on animal.action@hotmail.com
