Dubai: Scores of XPRESS readers have pitched in to help fund the medical treatment of an eight-year-old Pakistani boy whose plight was reported by the newspaper last week.

Azan suffers from Muscular Dystrophy, a disease that causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. He needs to undergo a stem cell therapy in India but the cost of the procedure, estimated to be Dh37,000 is way beyond the means of his father Arshad Malik who earns Dh3,000.

Relieved

Within hours of the XPRESS story, several UAE residents came forward to help. Malik said he is overwhelmed by the support.

“I feel so relieved. The last two months have been very difficult for me. I had managed to save about Dh6,000. My employer gave Dh10,000 but I was still short of Dh21,000. “I can’t thank all those who helped in at this critical juncture,” said Malik.
