Tell us about Democrats Abroad.
It is the official Democratic Party arm for the millions of Americans living outside the United States. It has committees throughout Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Asia which keep its citizens informed of their rights and help them participate in the US political process. One of the primary functions is to get the people to vote during elections.
What is the American expat population in the UAE?
There are anywhere between 50,000 and 70,000 living in the UAE. About eight million Americans in total live out of the US.
Can they vote in the upcoming elections?
Absolutely. In my personal experience, a majority of Americans overseas tend to lean towards Democrats. Unfortunately we don’t see many voting during elections. We urge all Americans to register and vote.
How can they go about doing this?
All they have to do is visit the website votefromabroad.org. It is a non-partisan website. This means it doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat, Republican, Independent – all you need to do is register and apply for your absentee ballot from your last US address.
How is it looking for Hilary Clinton?
She is the presumptive nominee and it looks like it will be made formal at the convention next month. Clinton is probably the most qualified candidate in American history.
