Abu Dhabi: The webstore launched by LuLu Hypermarket is changing the way Abu Dhabi residents shop for groceries.
The online store www.luluwebstore.com which had only 50 users in January when it started has thousands of registered customers now.
“The process is simple. All you have to do is register on the website with your address and browse and click the products you want, move them to the virtual shopping cart. We will deliver them to your doorsteps within 24 hours,” said Visal Jose, e-commerce marketing manager at LuLu.
Hassle-free
There is a charge of Dh10 for each delivery. The extra cost withstanding, the convenience of grocery shopping from the comforts of their homes has proved to be a boon for many Abu Dhabi residents.
“It is hassle-free. You don’t have to drive, hunt for parking and stand in long queues at the cash counters,” said Arab housewife Asma Mohammad Abeden.
Indian housewife Sukanya Ramesh who has used the service several times said it is convenient for women like her who wait for weekends to go shopping with their husbands.
“Supermarkets are crowded during weekends and it takes at least three hours to do one’s weekly shopping. Being able to buy our groceries online means we have a relaxed Friday evening,” said Ramesh.
Claimed to be the first online grocery shopping service in the capital, LuLu webstore delivers in and around Abu Dhabi city including Reem Island, Saadiyat and in Al Reef.
Besides groceries, one can also buy a range of items including baby products, beauty and electronics goods.
“We cover almost 80 per cent of the Abu Dhabi main island except the western region,” said Jose.
The chain which has more than 129 outlets in the GCC and operations in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, is expected to launch the service in Dubai as well.
“We have already started a trial service in Dubai. It will become official shortly,” said the manager.
