Dubai: Two months after he and his family were offloaded from an Istanbul-Dubai flight due to overbooking, a British expat has finally got Dh13,590 in compensation from Turkish Airlines.

Jumeirah resident H. Ali who was travelling with his wife and their six children to Turkey said they were given Dh1,745 each by the airline following a complaint detailing their harrowing experience at Turkey’s Ataturk airport.

Ali said they were scheduled to fly down to Dubai from Istanbul on October 14, but were informed by a ground staff at the last minute that they won’t be allowed to board the flight as it was overbooked. “I was shocked because we had arrived at the airport well in time and were even allocated seats on the plane.”

Ali said on his return to Dubai he wrote to the airline seeking compensation. “It finally came through last week,” he said.
