Dubai: Over a dozen white-collar professionals are set to don a new avatar as they take to the boxing ring and battle it out at a much-awaited Fight Night at the end of this month.

The 14 busy executives, coming from various backgrounds, are undergoing training as part of a 10-week programme ahead of the big night on March 31. The event, being organised by the website ExpatBloke.com, along with Emerald Events, The Roy Gumbs Boxing Academy, The Warehouse Gym, among others, is the second white collar boxing event to be held in the last two years.

Gala dinner

To be held at the Sky Bubble Rooftop at The Meydan Hotel, the event is open to 600 guests who can watch the gladiators fight over a black-tie experience and a three-course gala dinner.

The intensive training programme, which started on January 17, has seen applicants vetted by former UK & Commonwealth middleweight champion Roy Gumbs, and a team of boxing coaches.

Each contestant has undergone extensive training that focuses on the technical side of boxing, as well as strength and conditioning to prepare them for Fight Night. Every second of training has prepared the fighters to last three two-minute rounds of intense boxing. Participants have also been given nutritional advice, mental strength training by former fighters and mobility sessions with specialists including Yoga Tune Up.

The rules will ensure the contestants’ safety, with each of them receiving medical treatment before and after, a standing eight count and each round scored by professional judges, in addition to a skilled referee. The boxers will be provided with 16 ounce gloves, as well as mouth and head guards.

“After the launch of our first Fight Night in October, we are thrilled to whip another group of average ‘Joes & Janes’ into shape for an exciting night of blood, sweat, tears and champagne,” says Mike Barker, Partner, Expatbloke.com. “This time we have an outstanding set of boxing coaches, some new 360-training plans and a venue that has us celebrating under the stars – it is going to be a night to remember for everyone.”This time we have an outstanding set of boxing coaches, some new 360-training plans and a venue that has us celebrating under the stars – it is going to be a night to remember for everyone.”
