ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi-based tech vlogger Emkwan who claims to have got his hands on a prototype of the new iPhone reckons it will have no home button. While it’s not confirmed if the new phone will be the same as the prototype, Emkwan’s vlog detailing the features of the phone has caught the fancy of UAE residents. As anticipation builds up ahead of the phone’s much-awaited launch next week, the vlog already garnered nearly 20,000 views.

Here is what Emkwan says you can expect from the new phone:

Main display

The front display will be almost bezel-less apart from a notch at the top of the device to accommodate the earpiece and front camera sensors. “This means that the screen will take up nearly the entire front of the device. But the most striking feature could possibly be the absence of the home button/fingerprint scanner which was introduced in 2007. “The fingerprint scanner may either find a place on the screen or be completely replaced with a face recognition feature,” he says. The prototype in Emkwan’s possession has three front cameras. He assumes one of them will be a “superfast, 3D camera sensor” to unlock the device through face recognition.

Backside specs

There were be a slew of features on the back of the phone, the chief among them being a vertical camera and glass style design. “Apple is likely to ditch the matte finish for the original back glass. However, this may not be a good idea as the glass could break easily,” says Emkwan. Some reviewers claim the phone will have a fingerprint sensor just below the Apple logo.

Chrome edges

The prototype as seen in the picture is white and has chrome edges. Emkwan describes the colour combination as “tacky” on his vlog. “Its prototype is too shiny for my liking. I reckon the final product will be different and a lot more sobre,” he says. He also believes that the power button may be a little longer than in the iPhone7.

Choice of colours

Emkwan believes the new phone will come in a wide range of colours and may not be called iPhone8 at all. “I’m not sure what they are going to call this one, it may not be “iPhone8 since it is Apple’s 10th anniversary this year.”

Accuracy

Emkwan, who has got his hands on prototypes in the past, claims they are very similar to the final products. “In the past these leaks have been 70-95 per cent similar to the final version, particularly when I have received them so close to the official announcement,” he says.
