Dubai: The Repton School in Dubai is introducing a mental health policy for its staff so that they can identify early signs of anxiety and depression among students.

David Cook, the school’s headmaster, said the policy will be included in the school’s student body programme. It is currently being drafted by a team of mental health experts working at the school.

“The policy lays down rules and regulations for staff and students on what they can do for someone showing signs of mental distress. It also underlines the school’s responsibility to pick up on the early signs of stress and help students with their concerns,” said Cook.

“There is widespread concern around mental health in schools which has been aggravated by a general sense of anxiety affecting kids these days,” he added.
