Dubai: Hiromi Tango is the persona of what she calls as the Healing Garden. Bedecked with colourful flowers, she makes for a pretty picture.

The Japanese-Australian artist, working with a group of children as part of the Art Dubai extravaganza at the Madinat Jumeirah on Wednesday is the lead artist for the sixth edition of the Sheikha Manal Little Artists Programme. “The Healing Garden is really about nurturing the kids’ imagination and creativity,” she says. With a strong educational component, the garden’s interactive installation invites children to give shape to an environment based on local plants and flowers.

“Our emphasis is on five locally found species of flowers with material manipulation,” says Hiromi.

The species include Petunia, Bougainvillea, Frangipani, the palm tree and the date. “With the date palm as its focus, the garden explores the many ways in which local plants and flowers can contribute to one’s well-being,” says Hiromi.

The programme will be held till March 24. It is being held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, president of UAE Gender Balance Council, president of Dubai Women Establishment and wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs UAE. It is a partnership between The Cultural Office of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Art Dubai.
