Abu Dhabi: The capital’s Al Wahda Mall could well ride into history this weekend as it supports an attempt by Guinness Dileef, a cartoonist and world record holder, to notch up yet another title by building what is set to be the “largest rideable bicycle”.

The giant cycle, which is currently on display at the mall, is nine metres long and five metres high. The cartoonist said it took him 50 hours over five days to build the cycle, the aim of which is to spread the message of halthy living and sustainability. The objectives are in sync with Al Wahda Mall’s cause: health initiative. Nauman Thakur, general manager, Al Wahda Mall, said, “The giant rideable cycle on display in the mall will educate mall goers and everyone at large about the adaption of sustainable initiatives that contribute to a healthy, happy lifestyle. A happy nation equals a healthy population and that needs a healthy lifestyle. We are constantly looking at introducing unique initiatives that will benefit the community.”

Community effort

The mall’s cause: health initiative engages with the community by identifying efforts that promote health, fitness and social development. Earlier, the mall supported Australian fitness icon and seven-time Guinness World Record holder Eva Clarke to clinch three more Guinness titles when she managed the highest number of pull ups in 24 hours.

Dileef already holds the Guinness World Record for making the largest (16.89 metres high) badminton shuttle which he created in April this year. His name also finds a mention in the 2011 Indian Book of Records and 2012 Limca Book of Records for drawing the largest caricature in the world (3,333 square feet).

Hailing from Kerala, India, the cartoonist has travelled far and wide to promote his campaigns: ‘A cartoon in every house’ and ‘Sit and I will draw you’.
