Dubai: The Sri Lankan community in the UAE is all set to mark the Sri Lankan Day 2018 at a gala event at Zabeel Park in Dubai on February 9.

25th anniversary

Organised by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka, the event will commemorate the 70th year of Sri Lanka’s independence and the 25th anniversary of the Consulate’s establishment in Dubai.

The evening is open to people from all nationalities.

Charitha Yattogoda, Consul general of Sri Lanka, said this is the first time ever that an event of this nature is being held in the UAE. “The event will consist of a number of activities promoting Sri Lanka. Both Sri Lankans and people from other nnationalities can enjoy the family-oriented event,” the consul general said.

The highlights of the event include a UAE-Sri Lanka Friendship Walk which is aimed at strengthening the strong relationship between the two countries and a cultural show depicting the rich Sri Lankan heritage, in addition to food stalls serving authentic Sri Lankan food.

The one-day event will also offer insights into Sri Lankan property by experts in the field. Blood and eye glasses donation camps, free legal consultations, an employment related advisory and a special photography competition on Sri Lankan cuisine called “Suupachaya” have also been planned. The event is expected to end with a musical concert featuring leading Sri Lankan singers.
